Pre-Columbian ~ NAZCA / NASCA ~ Polychrome Bowl
This is a Pre-Columbian NAZCA / NASCA Polychrome Bowl from Peru, 200 - 400 A.D. It measures about 6 3/4" X 7" X 3" ( 17.2 cm X 17.9 cm X 7.7 cm ). The Nazca Culture was located South of Lima. The Nazcas built huge irrigation systems, underground aqueducts, and The Nazca Lines (geoglyph). They were influenced by the Paracas Culture. Their ceramics were beautiful and colorful, as well as their textiles. They were very advanced in Astronomy, Agriculture, and Medicine. Their decline was, some archaeologists suggest, due to El Niņo, which brought floods and erosion problems, and then caused severe droughts that affected their crops and agriculture in general.
