Pre-Columbian ~ WARI / HUARI ~ Large Polychrome KERO
$ 600

This is a Pre-Columbian WARI / HUARI Large Polychrome KERO from Peru, 500 - 900 A.D. It measures about 6 1/4" X 6" X 7 3/4" ( 15.9 cm X 15.3 cm X 19.8 cm ). The Wari Culture was a Middle Horizon Civilization located 6.8 miles ( 11.0 km ) North-East of the modern city of Ayacucho. Ayacucho was then the center of a civilization that covered much of the Highlands and Coast of modern-day Peru. Besides the Wari Ruins, the Northern Wari Ruins or Cerro Patapo, are the best-preserved remnants. It is believed that the vast expansion of the Wari Empire was due to religion conversion, military conquest, or the spread of agricultural knowledge (mainly Terrace agriculture). The Waris grew bitter potato and corn, raised llama and alpaca. The Waris were into a trading network across The Andes where figurines, ceramic vessels, textiles, and metals were traded.
