This is a Pre-Columbian MOCHE Very Large VESSEL from Peru, 100 - 800 A.D. Unusual, rare, impressive size. The vessel was repaired from about 5 large pieces. All the pieces are there. It measures about 10 1/2" X 8 1/2" X 13 1/2" ( 26.8 cm X 21.7 cm X 34.4 cm ). It weighs about 6 Lbs ( 2.7 kgs ). The Moche Civilization built massive sacred Huacas (pyramids). Ceramics were their main expression of art. The Moches created sculptural and plain paint-ornamented vessels of which, the most traditional and popular were the stirrup spout vessels. Their motifs were very diverse: animals, plants, human life, mythology, rituals, fishing, hunting, combat, sacrifices.
