| This is a rare large format mezzotint engraving of Major General Winfield Scott. It would have been published in the 1820"s or earlier. Thomas Gimbrede the artist was an engraver at West Point during this time period. The publisher was William S Reddin of New York and the printer was J&G Neale. This is a large 13 1/2 by 10 3/4 image size with wide plate margins and is about 16 by 20 overall. This engraving is in wonderfull condition and appears to have never been framed. It says proof in the title margin and the medal in the center is a congressional medal for battles in 1814 at Chippewa and Niagara. You will not find a nicer engraving of Scott than this one. I could find no other examples for sale. | ||
