Exquisite 18th Century Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock, Imbert

H 24.5 in. x W 19.5 in. (at base) x D 10 in. (at base)

Fine and large Louis XVI gilt bronze ormolu mantel clock by Jean-Gabriel Imbert, called Imbert L’Aîné. Waisted cartouche-form case, decorated with acanthus scrolls and surmounted by a seated putto holding a lyre. Roman dial is signed "Imbert L’Aîné a Paris". second half of 18th century.

Jean-Gabriel Imbert (1735-1795) was a well-known clockmaker, and many of his works were collected by French nobles during his lifetime. Examples from his outstanding oeuvre can now be seen at the Musée de Carnavalet in Paris, the Patrimonio Nacional in Spain, the Residenzmuseum in Munich and the Palazzo Reale in Turin.
