This type of grayware pottery was made by Caddo Indian women for special use in life and often accompanied deceased loved ones into burial tombs within earthen mounds. It is hand-made without the use of a wheel and was appliqued and incised using simple means - like fingernails, then all was further embellished with white pigment which is still somewhat visible.
