|On Trobriand, there is a tradition of women making their own money out of fresh, green banana leaves. Husbands give wives these uniquely incised processing boards and after a few hours, a pile of money! This old and well-made, enigmatic object was hand carved from a heavy, tight-grained hardwood. It has acquired a deep, rich, dark brown, shiny patina from long use. Early 20th century. 22"L x 9.50"W. Fine condition with some old checking and losses along the thinner edges. Traces of white lime powder.|
