| Stone-carved, heart-shaped form made from a heavy wood with an encrusted, darkened surface. Fiber cord is quite old, but was, undoubtedly, replaced sometime after the shield was made. This smaller type of shield comes from the Adalbert Mountains, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea and dates to the very early 20th C. 32.50"L x 17"W, in very fine condition, overall, but with some abrasions, wear, and small age cracks, as would be expected. Provenance: deaccessioned from a Florida Museum. | |||||||
