A Papua New Guinea hand drum
Probably of Highlands origin, this simple hourglass-form drum is only minimally decorated with linear cuts along its bottom edge. The smooth, blackened surface is pleasing and shows much use and handling. Original lizard skin head. The drum is playable and has a great, wide tonal-range of sound. Early-mid 20th century. 22.5"L x 5.75" Diam. max. Provenance: Aase B. and C. Frederick Thompson Foundation, FL.
