A Yaka initiation mask (Ndemba)
Classic example of the helmet mask form worn by initiated male youths as they return to their village. From the D.R.Congo, mid 20th C. Wood, fiber, textile, pigments, measuring 23"H x 18"W. Condition: Very fine with appropriate signs of age and light use; some loss to tips of hat appendages and to raffia mane. Provenance: Private Florida collection since 1974-present
