An earthenware Nok head fragment
The mustachioed male image with classic large, triangular, wide set eyes, high forehead, and tripartite coiffure. This example has maintained its incised details quite well considering the surface has experienced the typical erosion of the burnished surface slip. A coarse sand temper is exposed after 2000 years of weathering. From central Nigeria, 400 BCE to CE 200. This head has been TL tested and comes with the document. It is in very fine condition with no new material, and it measures 8.50"H. It is mounted on a custom steel base. Provenance: Eugene Behlen, NM and FL, 1990's.
