This double-mouthed palm wine cup is a type which was associated with leadership among the Suku people of D.R.Congo. They were typically presented upon taking office and were passed onto a successor. No one else beside the owner was allowed to drink from or wash these cups with symbolic "figure-eight"openings. 4 5/8"W x 3"H, in very fine condition with smooth, rich brown, deep patina. Early 20th C. Provenance: Dr. Peter Horvath, MA, 1970's.
