| From the "Man as Art" series taken in Papua New Guinea during the photographer's 13 years of travel into that area of the South Pacific, starting in the 1960's. A large-format book, entitled "Man as Art", was first published in 1981. At that time, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis wrote that she considered it "one of the most beautiful books I have seen in my life." Malcolm Kirk was assistant to Irving Penn while in New York City, 1964. He has traveled on assignment for numerous magazines, including National Geographic, The Smithsonian, Conde Nast Traveler, Esquire, Harpers Bazaar, as well as many other publications in the USA, Europe, and Asia. This vibrant portrait of an adult male of the Huli tribe was taken on the Island, in the Ialuba area of the Southern Highlands. | ||
