As collectors ourselves we know how difficult it can be to find a reliable seller of actual authentic ancient art. We always recommend to new collectors to become knowledgeable before actually buying their first authentic piece of art. The best way of doing this is by reading and visiting museums so you can get the feel of what an authentic piece is supposed to look like. Auction catalogs are a great way to be able to see authentic examples of ancient art. We personally prefer Arte Primitivo catalogs because they are in color and give you a better image than some of the black and white catalogs from Sotheby's or others.

There is also a Yahoo group named Ancientartifacts with thousands of members including collectors, dealers and museum curators which purpose is discussing ancient art. You can find a list of dealers and eBay id's of people trying to sell fake pieces as authentic in the group files. If you have a piece you may have some doubts on you can send pictures to the group and get members opinion on what they think. I strongly recommend joining - Ancientartifacts.
