This offering is for an antique Japanese bronze candle stand (Shokudai), with detailed decorations and a sharp pointed pricket upon which to mount a candle. Featured on the bronze stand are six-panels showing a variety of birds and flowers in relief, with mythological elephant handles on each side, and mounted on three foo lion feet attached to a 2.5” diameter base. It consists of three screw mounted sections, and the bottom section has a slightly darker patina than the other two, and could be an early replacement. It measures 8-3/4”H plus a 1.5”H point x 3.5”W on a 2.5”Diameter base, and weighs 1.8 lbs. The Shokudai is in very good overall condition, but has some darkened patina and signs of age. Date is c.1868-1912 (Meiji period).
