This is an offering for an Alabaster Sculpture of an Indian Chief bust by an American artist, W.C. Shotts, mounted on an oval rosewood base. This magnificent work of art demonstrates the versatility and artistic talent of W. C. Shotts. This rare, one of a kind, alabaster bust is three dimensional, and was sculpted in fine detail from nature’s raw material. The size of the bust is 7-1/2” H x 4-1/2” W x 5-3/4” D; the wood base is 2-1/4” H x 7” W x 5-1/4” D; total height is 10” and total weight is 5.11 lbs. The sculpture is signed by the artist and dated “2-02” on the back.
W. C. Shotts was recognized as a master artist in the field of sculpture, netsuke, inro carvings, scrimshaw and paintings. He had a superb ability to use any medium for his works of art.
