RARE Giuseppe Vasari signed and numbered bronze sculpture of a finely attired Swiss Guard, holding a separately cast weapon on a long staff. Beautifully made of gilt metal, pewter, and silver overlays with a base of heavy alabaster. The piece is signed on the guard's left thigh and numbered (1/250) for the USA market on the medal on the base. Vasari's incredible work is difficult to find, very well sought after and commands high prices. His artistic technique is of a Cellini method of fusing precious metals to a bronze base through a very difficult process. Vasari is a renowned master craftsman and his limited edition sculptures are considered to be enduring investments in art. Measures: 10.5 in. high x 3 3/4 in. wide x 2-1/4 in. deep. The base is 3-1/4 in. square. Excellent, almost mint condition.
