This cheese dome was made by Minton of Stoke; Staffordshire England circa 1900. The coloring of this piece was inspired by “Oriental” design, specifically Imari Porcelain. The floral under glaze pattern was hand painted with iron red enamel that was applied over the glaze.

The small round plate with scalloped rim and border of “C” scrolls frame a garden landscape with tea house, bridge and vegetation with a bird flying. The verso is marked with a block design artist mark.

The gourd shaped body is decorated with a cobalt blue ground and large scaled scrolling acanthus leaves in white and light blue that frame an orange with scattered green leaves.

The round lid with art nouveau water lily motif with raised leaves and blossoms leads to a blossom that is closed and sits in the center of the lid as the handle. The body of the jar has a silver collar that supports a pivoting strap handle that reinforces the water lily motif as does the engraved glass body. The lid and collar are both struck with hallmarks.
