Acrylic on Artist Board, Landscape by Robert Laessig
An Acrylic on Artist Board, Landscape by Robert Laessig (Am. 1913-2010)

Laessig creates a layered surface full of texture by adding and removing wax through the use of a hot iron and Pellon. This technique is similar to batik. The unique painting layering acrylic paint over this treated surface provides unique textures to base the painting on. This painting is full of elements that are not commonly used by the artist: waterfall and farmhouse in the upper right corner, red cardinal perched nearby, a spider and his web, and a second home on the left side mid way. The painting is signed in the lower right corner.

Laessig was born in New Jersey in 19313. He studied at the Textile Design School of Plauen, the Art Students League in New York, and studied under Bernard Klonis. Laessig exhibited in the May Show at the Cleveland Museum of Art and is listed as Who's Who in American Art.

Size: 21 ½” high 19 ½” wide (board) 26 ½” high 24 ½” wide (framed)
