A Pair of Hand Carved Soapstone Bookends, Chinese

The detail in these early 20th C. hand-carved bookends is stunning! Carved in a mirror image, they both depict a garden pot with cascading foliage and floral patterns. On top of each piece is a black bird holding a branch with its beak. They were carved in an “open work” style which creates shadows in the background which makes all of the intricate details come to life. The soapstone is a soft celadon green color with hints of grey throughout. One of the pieces has a chip on the lower front right side, (see picture) but other than that they are in great condition.

Size: 5 ½” high by 4 ¼” wide

Condition: good with the exception of a small chip in one of the bookends.

Price: 195.00
