Inlayed Document Box, English, Late 18th Cent
This rectangular form box is composed of mahogany, satinwood and, ebony. The box is embellished with mahogany boarders, ebony backgrounds, and satin wood medallions. The two medallions depict seashells decorated with pinwork techniques. The interior of the shows two movable slat walls providing organization for envelopes and papers. This elegant box may have originally been intended as a tea caddy and, was retrofitted as a document box in the early 20th Century. The work also shows original brass hardware and an ivory diamond shaped escutcheon. The key is not present. This work shows lovely attention to detail. Size: 4 ½ “ in height, 7 ½” in length and, 4” in depth Condition: Very Good to Excellent, minor shrinkage and loss, minor crackling on veneer, ware due to age Price: $1,350.00 |
