This unique piece is in a rectangular form and composed of a high gloss mahogany, glass and, bakelite fixtures. The piece was intended for element, compound and, alloy measurement. The glass enclosure provided an untainted environment for the specimen. The interior scale mechanism is gorgeous and, is still functioning. One of the exterior control (or balancing) knobs is missing but, can be easily replaced. The scale has a drawer at the base which acts as storage for the counter weights. Most likely this scale was used as a jeweler’s scale as; the counter weights are in the format of carat weight. The interior of the drawer is tagged “Christian Becker Inc Style no. 18995 and is dated Oct. 1st, 1936.
