Stunning 1920s or 1930s Chinese export necklace with genuine carnelian beads, genuine rock crystal quartz beads carved in Art Deco geometric patterns, and Peking glass beads simulating carnelian, and small faceted crystal or glass beads. With a tiny goldtone openwork clasp. Hand knotted with cream silk thread. The large carved rock crystal beads pass the test for rock crystal, which is that they show upside down and backwards anything, like printing, viewed through them. The beads are graduated in size. Very interesting original construction with a few Peking glass carnelian color beads regularly spaced among the genuine carnelian beads. The differences between the carnelian beads and the glass beads are pictured up close. The rock crystal beads are beautifully carved with many different patterns.
It weighs 92 grams. Wearable length is 31 1/2 inches. The largest center rock crystal bead is 15mm in diameter and the smallest beads are 5mm in diameter. Excellent condition with one small loss to one rock crystal bead, pictured but not noticeable at a short distance. Display form is life size. Photos enlarged to show detail.
