About the Artist:
Using the techniques he has studied for more than a decade with Juan Quezada of Mata Ortiz, Mexico, and the artists of Acoma, Hopi and San Ildefonso pueblos, Michael creates shiny blackware and black on black pots with his own intricate geometric patterns and animal images. His hand-built pots are simple, exquisite shapes, both decorative and functional, that carry the ancient traditions into our daily lives.
Wisner digs local clays in the mountains near his studio at the Anderson Ranch in Colorado. The clay is filtered to remove rocks and debris and then hand coiled to form each piece. The pottery is then painted with a human hair brush and fired outdoors in an open bonfire. Each pot is a one-of-a-kind hand crafted work of art.
