Guest Book
Offered is a large masterful stoneware tray (16” in diameter) made by James and Nan McKinnell using a wax resist process circa 1960s. From the Collection of Jim and Maury Haseltine (Oregon) the tray is marked with an incised “McKinnell” signature on the bottom as shown in the photographs and in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The McKinnells were important members of the generation of post WWII ceramics pioneers that included many legendary married couples who worked collaboratively and enjoyed unusually long and productive lives including Gertrud and Otto Natzler, Mary and Edwin Scheier, Rose and Ernie Cabat, and Vivika and Otto Heino. The McKinnells exhibited throughout the world. Their work is in many national collections including the American Museum of Ceramic Art and the Smithsonian. Together, they were inducted into the American Craft Council College of Fellows in 1988. Other awards received by the couple are a 1977 Citation of Merit and lifetime Honorary Membership from the National Council of Ceramic Arts.
