Offered is a printer’s proof of a limited edition Jack Youngerman serigraph, “Blue/Brown Ellipse” from 1978. The serigraph is printed on heavy paper stock and measures 52” x 46”. The print is signed and marked “printers proof” in pencil as shown in the photographs. Framed, the print is in excellent vintage condition with no damage, scuffs, bends or repairs. Born in 1926 in Webster Groves, Missouri and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. After serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II, the G.I. Bill helped Youngerman continue his art education, at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Youngerman’s work combines hard-edged geometry with organic forms and conjures associations with Matisse’s paper cutouts, Rorschach patterns, and kaleidoscopic mandalas. After Youngerman returned to New York in the mid-1950s, his work was grouped and exhibited with work by Ellsworth Kelly and Frank Stella. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art.
