Contemporary Hagi Vase by Yoshiga Hatao

Three lobes spiral toward the pinched mouth of this large vessel by important modern Hagi artist Yoshiga Hatao enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The white hagi glaze is tinged with lavender and lightly crackled. THe vessel is 12-1/2 inches (32 cm) tall and in excellent condition.
Hatao was born into the Hagi pottery family of Yoshiga Taibi in 1943. He graduated the prestigious Tokyo University of Art, and the University bought his graduation piece. From 1968 he went on sabbatical to Europe, then returned to complete graduate studies at his alma matter. From 1975 he has been repeatedly accepted and or prized at the Nitten National Exhibition, National Ceramics Exhibition and National Modern Crafts Exhibition (where he also served as a juror). He has been collected by the Foreign ministry.
