Gold gilded Pottery Vase by Terada Yasuo
14 karat gold bubbles out of the shiseki-dotted surface of this striking work by Terada Yasuo enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The raw clay bubbling feldspathic inclusions, green ash glaze and gold combine for a striking beauty over the simple form. It comes with the original exhibition flyer from the group exhibit with Kishi Eiko honoring winners at the Asahi Togeiten by Seibu Department Store in Ikebukuro. This piece is featured in the pamphlet. It is 6-1/2 inches (cm) square, 8 inches (20 cm) tall and in excellent condition.
Yasuo Terada is an internationally acclaimed master potter known for his years of research into ancient kiln techniques and devotion to raw materials which are an integral part of Japanese ceramic traditions. Terada was born in Aichi prefecture in 1948, and graduated the Tama Art University in 1973. While still at school he had travelled Europe, and following his graduation would spend time in Southern Europe. He was heavily involved with sculpting as well as pottery, and was first accepted into the National Modern Crafts Exhibition in 1976. In 1978 he would travel south east Asia studying traditional Thai pottery. He was awarded at the Asahi Ceramics Exhibition in 1982. According to the art Gallery of Grande Prarie (Canada)
“Not afraid to embellish his traditional roots with innovative inspirations, Yasuo Terada sets new boundaries in modern Japanese ceramics with his uninhibited forms, designs and glazes. His work, flowing from abstract to naturalistic, represents a fusion of age-old tradition and contemporary vision.”
