Pottery Sculpture by Tsuboi Asuka

Platinum and crackled red glaze on white clay by pioneering female artist Tsuboi Asuka 10 inches diameter, 8-1/2 inches tall. In excellent condition, this has no box, but one can be acquired if desired.
One of the pioneering female artists, according to the book Soaring Voices “Tsuboi Asuka’s influence on the ceramic arts of Japan cannot be overstated”. Born in Osaka in 1932, she studied ceramics in Kyoto with (to be) Living National Treasure Tomimoto Kenkichi from 1953 after graduating the Jiyu Gakuen. From that same year her exhibiting career began with the Shinshokai Exhibition in Tokyo, where she was consistently exhibited. In 1957 she founded the Women’s Association of Ceramic Art. From the 70s she was recognized on an international stage, and from then her list of exhibitions both within Japan and out is extensive, with works in any number of important public and private collections. For more on this artist see Soaring Voices (2007) or Touch Fire (2009)
