A fine rendering of this traditional form by Sakai Nao, an up and coming female artist from Shigaraki. It is 12-1/2 inches (31 cm) tall, 9-1/2 inches (24 cm) diameter and in fine condition. The price includes a new custom made signed wooden box.
Sakai Nao was born in Osaka in 1983, and fell under the tutelage of Aoki Katsuyuki while still studying in Lower School. Her first solo exhibition was held at the young age of 20 in Osaka (2003). The following year she moved to Shigaraki, where she came into the circle of pioneering female artist Koyama Kiyoko. In 2008 she held her first solo exhibition at Kintetsu Department Store, adding Hanshin Department store to her list of consistent venues in 2010. At the time of this writing she is carrying on potting while awaiting the arrival of her first child, commuting from her husband’s home in East Osaka.
