A tall faceted form in dark red clay with settled ash on the shoulder by Okayasu Koshu enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The otherworldly form is striking and the dark burnished clay enticing. The vessel is 13-1/2 x 9 x 18 inches (35 x 22 x 45.5 cm) and is in excellent condition.
Okayasu Koshu was born in Kumenan, Okayama in 1955. At the age of 20 he apprenticed under Living National Treasure Yamamoto Toshu. He garnered his first major prize at the Okayama Kenten in 1979. He has an impressive list of private exhibitions, and has displayed with the Nihon Dento Kogeiten National Traditional Crafts Exhibition as well as the Sculptural Forms in Tea Exhibition at the Tanabe Museum.
