| A sophisticated sculptural Bizen vase by rising Bizen star Watanabe Takuma enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Overlapping straps of clay rise to an unsuspecting end at the opening. The burnt red surface is mottled with soft charring and a smattering of green Shizen-Yu ash glaze. The piece is over 9 inches (23.5 cm) tall, 7 inches (19 cm) diameter and in excellent condition. Takuma (b. 1968) learned the art of Bizen under the careful tutelage of Yamauchi Atsuyoshi followed by a stint at Bizen Toen. He has been exhibited with the Issui-Kai (awarded), Okayama Bijutsu Ten (awarded) Nihon Dento Kogei Ten (Japanese Traditional Crafts Exhibition) as well as the Tanabe Museum of Art Chanoyu Zokei Ten (Modern Tea Forms Exhibition). His range is exceptional, from traditional to ultra-modern, with a tendency to dramatic design within simplistic form. | ||||||||
