Shigaraki Tsubo by Ogawa Seiho
An aggressive Shigaraki Tsubo by Ogawa Seiho (1908-2001) enclosed in the original signed and stamped wooden box. Feldspathic shiseki and explosive ishihaze scar the reddened clay while natural ash glaze shrouds the shoulder, and even now flames appear to lick up the sides. The artist has taken the very traditional shape and added a sense of drama by breaking away the edges of the base, bringing a contemporary feel to the conservative form. A great looking example by this popular artist reminiscent but not duplicating the works of Ko-Shigaraki masters from centuries before. The pot is 8-1/2 inches (22 cm) tall, 7 inches (18 cm) diameter and in fine condition. Seiho was a master of fine tea ware, and mentor to many names in modern Shigaraki firing.
