A gorgeous orange tinted metal glaze speckles the surface of this large tsubo by Takahashi Wasaburo (who calls himself Wasa) enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating circa 1985. The tsubo is 11-1/2 inches (29 cm) diameter, 11 inches (27 cm) tall and in fine condition. Wasaburo studied under Shigaraki Living National Treasure Ueda Naokata, from whom he received his kiln name, and later under Living National Treasure Shimizu Uichi, who’s influence is evident here in the glaze. He has been displayed nationally at the Nippon Dento Kogeiten (Japanese Traditional Crafts Exhibition) among others, and is best known for his work in celadon and metal glazes. He has also presided over a number of workshops in the United States.
