| Soft lavender and blue meld on the surface of this fine koro by Yamazaki Koyo (1890-1979) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The piece features a rosewood lid inlayed with a polished agate pull. The shade of glaze is so unusual, thick as one might expect of Mingei, yet incredibly delicate like the robins egg colors produced by China. It is 4-1/2 inches (11 cm) wide, 4 inches (10 cm) tall and in perfect condition. Koyo studied under Kiyomizu Rokubei VI, and was displayed consistently in many National and Local Exhibitions. He has been awarded four times at the Nitten, twice at the Nihon Shin Kogei Ten (Japanese National New Craft Exhibition) as well as the Kofukai and is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art Boston and Bern Museum of Art Switzerland among others | ||||||||||||
