Iga Vase by Miura Chikuken

A spectacular large Iga vase by Miura Chikuken (also Chikken) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Olivine glass over gray clouded terracotta, curt and sculpted in the finest Iga traditions. The vase is 12 inches (31 cm) tall, 9 inches (23 cm) diameter and in perfect condition. Miura Chikuken was born the third son of Miura Chikusen I in 1901, and set out on his own path with the new name Chikken early in his career, establishing his own kiln in 1934. Although his father is known more for porcelain, Chikken chose the route of traditional Kyoyaki tea ware and ceramics. With its proximity to Kyoto and the high esteem for Iga pottery in the tea room, it is not surprising to see Iga and Shigaraki ware by Chikuken, and in fact both he and Miyanaga Tozan are well known for their Iga and Shigaraki pots.
