| Raw dark earth is surmounted by metallic color on vase by Uke Kensaku enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The five uneven sides seem to be forced together at random, the lack of uniformity contrasting with the precise design and bringing a sense of freshness to the piece. The vase is 13 inches (33 cm) tall, 8 x 9 inches (20 x 23 cm) across the base. Kensaku was born in Osaka in 1940, and first graduated the Tama University of Art Painting department before embarking on the ceramic path. Perhaps that explains his rarely surpassed exactitude in application. He has stayed in the realm of private exhibition, being widely exhibited within Japan as well as overseas. This piece dates circa 1988. | ||||||||||||
