| A charming baluster form vase decorated with scrolling vines of ivy leaves by Katsuo Seiryudo (1907-1984) in the original signed wooden box. The rust colored vines seem to cling to the crackle-glazed surface hemmed in top and bottom with a wide swath of the dark iron glaze reminiscent of a Zen circle. The vessel is 1 foot (31 cm) tall, roughly the same diameter and in fine condition. The remnants of an exhibition tag still cling to the base after more than half a century. Seiryudo, originally of Hiroshima, graduated the Tokyo school of Art, Western Style Painting Department, and moved to Kyoto in 1930 to begin working in ceramics. His works were hailed at both prefectural and National exhibitions including the prestigious Bunten and Nitten. This likely dates circa 1935 | |||||||||
