| This is a very rare piece of vintage Murano glass designed by Carlo Scarpa for Venini. Based on the two line acid signature to the base this piece was produced in the early 1930's which was the time Carlo Scarpa was brought in alongside of Paolo Venini as art advisor to the Venini glassworks. It was from pieces such as this that Scarpa catapulted himself into the limelight of Murano and World history. As quoted in Venini Cataloque Raisonne p. 41: "His debut at the 1934 Venice Biennale was recorded by Roberto Papini: 'Utterly select and novel the new Venini production with its polished, filigree, and plastic glass, where there is imagination, taste and an admirable exquisiteness of technique, both classical and original, such a production is in the forefront of modernity.' It is worth noting that Papini devoted an entire page to Paolo Venini, following his article on the decorative arts of the 1934 Biennale, where he explained the great success of the glassware." So this piece has significant historical import. It has one tiny flea bite as pictured, otherwise in excellent condition for its 70+ years of life. Minor surface scratches to the base as expected. 2 line Venini acid stamp which dates this piece to the early 1930's. Measures 4 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches tall. | ||
