Very fine example of a Japanese Kiyomizu Tenmoku Chawan with aesthetic Namako (sea cucumber) glaze. It was made around 1900 and is in perfect antique condition. No chips, cracks or repairs.

We present another awesome Shino-Oribe Chawan from our collection: Greyish-whithe glaze amalgamates with a wild and roughly thrown body and a still vivid and strong glaze. It is very heavy for a tea bowl, almost 500g. Please note that there is also an interesting kiln mark.

The chawan dates from the Meiji Period (1868-1912) and comes with a very good wood box.

Another Hagi Chawan of the Koraizaemon family in our collection: wonderful Hagi tea bowl made by the 9th generation Saka Koraizaemon (1849-1921) during the Meiji Period. Fine and aesthetic Kintsugi gold restauration. It comes with its originally signed and sealed wood box and signed and sealed authentication documents.

Perfect Aka Raku Tsutsu Chawan made by the 10th generation Kichizaemon Tan-nyu and enclosed in an authentication wood box written and signed by the 12th generation master of Omotosenke, Seisei (1863-1937).

Tan-nyu (1795-1854) was firstly named as Sojiro. He was the second son of Ryōnyu, the second generation master. In 1811, at the retirement of his father-master Ryonyu, he succeeded as Kichiza’emon...

Perfect Aka Raku Chawan by Kichizaemon (twelfth Generation) Konyu (1857-1932). His childhood name was Kozaburo, later became Kicho (or, Yoshinaga). He was the eldest son of Keinyu, the eleventh generation master. In 1871, he succeeded the family business and became the generation master. In 1919 he retired and took the name as Konyu. He enjoyed his retirement in practicing tea ceremony and writing haiku. His Aka (red) Raku wares were famous for the dynamic use of spatula...

Special offer: Heavily distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl with a strongly flaring mouth made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife in its lower part and covered with a very deep black iron oxide glaze inside and outside.

A 'window' on the side has been left unglazed and is decorated with a square divided into two white and two black section accompanied on each side by two circles with the same patterns...

Here we present a real old Ko-Karatsu Tenmoku Chawan with a wonderful yobitsugi repair. It dates from the early stages of the Japanese Azushi-Momoyama Period (1573-1603).

A yobitsugi repair is not just a simple repair, it is a recreation by using laquer and some fragments of broken pottery of the same or a similar kiln. The result is a breathtaking consistency of 'landscape' (keshiki)...

Half cylinder shaped (Hanzutsu) tea bowl, thrown from light, coarse Mino clay, with very little inclusions a clay found on earlier Shino bowls. The walls are cut with a potters knife.

The bowl has been covered fully (with the exception of the foot ring) first with an iron bearing engobe (oniita) and after the decoration had been incised with the typical ash and feldspar glaze inside and outside creating the nezumi-shino glaze...

More than 100 year old Seto Chawan, slightly distorted and with two Samurai emblems. Perfect antique condition with no cracks or repairs. True wabi-sabi atmosphere.

Let's continue with another treasure: rounded wan-shaped tea bowl with high foot of the bamboo node style. The body pinched in at the middle to a shape called tojinbue (Chinese flute). The light, little coarse clay with enclosures is expertly thrown and full glazed - incl. the foot - with a transparent glaze of wood ash with some feldspar over a white engobe in hakeme style. The glaze shows a fine little crazing over the engobe, which is just amazing...

Wan shaped tea bowl made of light, refined and soft Mino clay, which contains a little iron oxide. The fastly but expertly thrown body inside and outside, with the exception of the bottom (including the finely thrown foot ring) is covered with a transparent ash glaze, which turned to yellow due to the iron oxide in the clay.

In two areas at the rim are highlights in green copper oxide in the tradition of the Mino Ki-Seto...

This is really a rarely seen example of antique Japanese ceramic art: impressive Katakuchi Chawan (tea bowl with a spout), made of unrefined Mino clay. Katakuchi chawans of that age are barely available on the antique market. It is the only one in our collection. So take your chance.

This is pure antique Edo: Wan-shaped tea bowl made of dark, iron oxide bearing, sandy Karatsu clay. The thinly thrown body is covered with the typical white, feldspatic Shino type glaze. It differs from the Mino Shino glaze by being glossier due to a higher ash content...

Rounded wan-shaped chawan with strong throwing (finger) marks, called rokuro-me. The light, very fine clay with enclosures is expertly thrown. The body is fully glazed - with the exception of the foot and its surrounding area.

Slightly distorted cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) tea bowl made of fine, light, unrefined Mino clay, containining a little iron oxide. Shape and style make it appear contemporary with the late Oribe bowls. The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical black oniita engobe inside and outside - with the exception of the bottom - over which a white, feldspatic Shino glaze has been poured. Little distorted half cylinder shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl with flaring mouth made of light, coarse unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was covered with the typical green copper oxide glaze inside and outside. A 'window' on the side has been left unglazed and is decorated with fern sprouts. This is a typical late Momoyama design, which seems to represent winter and summer. You can find a black Oribe bowl with a similar design in the Nezu Museum.

The somewhat irregular but...

Wan-shaped tea bowl made of light, little iron oxide bearing, sandy Karatsu clay, which is unrefined and has mane inclusions. The rim has been cut in the shape of a hissen (brush washer - the shape prevents a brush placed on the rim to roll off).

The thinly thrown body is covered with the typical transparent Karatsu type of ash glaze. Under the glaze is a decoration in iron oxide representing some foliage on the one side and a three dot mon of the Nakasato family.

Distorted half cylinder shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl made of little iron bearing, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body, trimmed with a potters knife (hera) is covered with the typical, glossy black iron oxide inside and outside. Here it is a rarely seen dark brown due to a lack of manganese.

A window on the side has been left unglazed for decoration in iron oxide engobe under a clear ash glaze in a form of straight and wavy lines. This is a typical Momoyama design.
