| Origin of this kind of chip inlay is attributed to the Kirks ca. 1961. Hallmark is probably by Singer Charlie. My book of hallmark shows similar marks under Charlie Singer, believe that this is one of his hallmarks. If I am wrong and you have more info on this hallmark, please let me know. He began producing in the early 1970s. See image for hallmark. This kind of Navajo chip inlay work lasted only a few years, they were overtaken by imports of Asia. This is a real Navajo made chip inlay necklace and should be in any serious collection of Native art. Inlay is coral and turquoise. Necklace is 27 inches long. Center thunderbird is 3 1/8 inches long and 2 ½ inches wide. A total of 12 smaller thunderbirds and each is 1 5/8 inches long and 1 inch wide. Weight of necklace is 8.45 oz. Or 240 grams. | ||
