Mildred Rackley Canta Flamenco 1940  Color Woodcut
Born in Carlsbad, NM on Oct. 13, 1906. Rackley studied at the University of Texas, New Mexico Normal School, Kunstgewerbe Schule in Hamburg, Germany, and with Walter Ufer and George Grosz. By 1947 her married name was Simon and she had settled in Oakland, CA. She died in Lafayette, CA on Nov. 19, 1992. Member: Nat'l Serigraph Society. Exh: Nicholson Gallery (Pasadena), 1931, 1934; AFA, 1932; Laguna Beach AA, 1946; Carnegie Inst., 1948. In: MM; Princeton Print Club. Edition: 1. Signed in pencil, lower right, M Rackley 40; titled, Canta Flamenco, middle; numbered, 1, lower left. Image: 12 x 14 inches (304 x 354 mm). Sheet: 16 1/4 x 17 7/8 inches (410 x 450 mm). Excellent condition. Generous margins. Some soiling on the margins.
