Herrick was a well known artist in Westmoreland, NH, specializing in landscapes and seascapes of New England. He was a member of the Copley Society of Boston, the Connecticut Academy of Arts and the North Shore Art Association. This dynamic image of crashing surf was most likely painted near Rockport, MA.

In this image a cowboy on horseback watches over his herd of cattle under the dark blue expanse of the night sky, illuminated only by the pale moonlight, while smoke from distant campfires drifts into the cool night air.
