Tsuchiya Koitsu, Japanese, 1870-1949, "Kyushu Hakozaki Hachimangu Shrine," Color woodblock, image size 15 1/4 x 10 1/4 inches, 1938, Doi Hangaten publisher, Yokoi printer, Doi watermark in the upper left corner of the sheet, publisher and printer seals in the margins, artist's seal in the lower left of the image. Tsuchiya Koitsu was apprenticed at the age of 15 to the artist Kobayashi Kiyochica in Tokyo, with whom he worked and lived for almost 20 years. He became known for his remarkable landscape prints in the Shin-Hanga style of Japanese art.
