Eugene Carriere, Lithograph, "Le Nouveau Ne Au Bonnet"
Eugene Carriere, French, 1849-1906, "Le Nouveau Ne Au Bonnet." This is a beautiful original lithograph by French Symbolist artist Eugene Carriere. The image size is 9 7/8 x 7 3/8 inches, it was created in 1890, state I/II, pencil signed by the artist. Carriere was an important figure in the French Symbolist movement; he studied at the Ecole Des Beaux Artes in Paris with Alexandre Cabanel, and was greatly influenced by the work of Rubens and Velazquez, as well as his friend and contemporary artist Auguste Rodin. Carriere was known for his intimate scenes of mothers and children, mostly painted in monochromatic earth tones with an incredible luminosity and spirit. This image is Carriere's first lithograph; to create it he scratched away the ink from the litho stone to create the delicate painterly style. This image is printed on chine colle and is in excellent condition, a rare first state, pencil signed by the artist.
