James McBey, Etching, "Macduff", 1921

James McBey, Scottish, 1883-1959, "Macduff". A richly inked artist proof, this etching measures 11 7/8 x 7 1/2 inches, and was created in an edition of 76 in 1921, and is number 201 in the Hardie catalog. This image is signed, titled and dated within the plate and hand signed and inscribed "A" in ink below the image. McBey was one of the leading figures of the 'British Etching Revival', known for his atmospheric land and seascapes. In this image of Macduff Harbor in his native Scotland, McBey uses energetic yet very precise lines and rich plate tone to beautifully portray the hustle and bustle of the small port.
