Manuel Robbe, French, 1872-1936, "Le Manege ou la Place Blanche a Paris". This is a superb original etching and aquatint in color by French Belle Epoch artist Manuel Robbe. Image size 16 3/4 x 23 1/2 inches, 1905, cat: Galerie Michal- 129, edition unknown but listed as very rare, pencil signed in the upper left corner of the image, framed. This vibrant scene of a Paris merry go round brightly illuminated against the shadowy city street is a one of Robbe's finest prints and is featured on the cover of the Galerie Michal catalog of his work. One of the leading French artists of the ‘Belle Epoch,’ Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes, becoming a master of the aquatint medium. He developed much of his own aquatint techniques, which enabled him to create his uniquely painterly, richly colored images.
