Asa Cheffetz, American, 1896-1965, "Pastoral, Vermont". A fine example of the work of Asa Cheffetz, this c. 1943 wood engraving is pencil signed and includes an AAA label, edition of 250, cat: Springfield-65. Cheffetz enrolled in the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where he was a student of Philip Hale and went on to study at the National Academy of Design in New York under Ivan Olinsky and William Auebach Levy. Cheffetz worked initially with the etching process and wood block prints but then turned his talents to wood engraving which he devoted the rest of his career to. Living in New England, he drew his subjects from the countryside, with its old houses, dramatic weather and famous landmarks.
