Herbert Ogden Waters, American, 1903-1966, "Ohio in the Spring". This is a very fine original wood engraving, image size 5 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches, c. 1940, edition of 75, pencil signed, numbered and titled, framed. Born in China of missionary parents, Herbert Waters graduated from high school in Shanghai and then moved to the US to pursue his art career. After college at Dennison University he taught at UNH and the Holderness School and became an artist for NH's WPA project. He excelled at the art of wood engraving and he used the beauty of the NH landscape as his inspiration. His many works are represented in fine museums worldwide including the Boston Museum of Fine Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
