This piece of Satsuma comes from the Meizan studio and is both superb in form and decoration. There is a Greek styled key border below the rim with both angular and lobed panels adorning the shoulder. Below a series of folded enamel diapers, gilt-bordered roundels of alternating size encircle the vase. Within these circular panels are intricate scenes of Lohan, butterflies and landscapes. Just above the base rim are more diapered panels similar to the shoulder. The lower half of the piece shows three encircling panels of minute fish and butterflies bisected by a panel of detailed millefleur surrounding children playing. This piece is in wonderful condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. There is some gilt wear to the top rim. The base bears the Meizan studio mark.
